Transform Your Yard into a Food Garden, level 1
Transform Your Yard into a Feed Garden Mentorship Program is specifically designed to meet the needs of Yellowknife gardeners and it has an emphasis on tried and true local knowledge sharing.
This program will provide 16 group sessions from February to November 2025 where we cover all the topics related to growing a food garden in Yellowknife. We have unique growing conditions that we can use to our advantage. The program provides individual sessions as needed to assist you in learning how to grow a great food garden for yourself or for your business. One home consultation is included in the program. Over the course of the program you will get to know other gardeners who love their gardens and like to share experiences, successes, challenges and their best recipes!
During the winter (February, March and April) we will focus on planning and deeper learning and we will have guest teachers and experts joining some sessions. In the past we have had potato experts, soil scientists, agronomists and some local growers/businesses join us.
In the spring starting early May, summer and fall we will be outside in the gardens learning hands-on growing skills. After harvest we will be back indoors learning fermenting, pickling and jam making.
Once you pay the registration fee you will be confirmed as a mentee on level 1 of this program and you will receive the full schedule of group sessions. The sessions are built for maximum learning, starting with planning the garden, soil health, starting seedlings, preparing soil, seeding, caring for food plants and garden maintenance, harvest, storing and preserving food from the garden. There is always time for questions and answers and for sharing garden stories.
This mentorship program is a part of “Transform Your Yard into a Food Garden” initiative open to the all Yellowknife and surrounding area citizens. This program is made possible through the City of Yellowknife’s commitment to the Agriculture Strategy GROW initiative.
If you are facing financial constraints, please contact me so we can come up with a way for you to participate.
The cost is $575 including GST
